Skin Types: Which are you?

Everybodys skin is different, fact. Different products work for different people. Before you think about buying another beauty product it's time to figure out which skin type you are, this will allow you to pick the right products for your skin and therefore give you the best results possible.

It's weird to think that your ancestors are effectively the reason your skin is the type that it is; people that you've never met have shaped your whole face and body. Crazy...

Oily skin:

This is a result of over-active sebaceous glands. It is the most likely skin type to breakout and therefore suffer from acne. Oily skin can also me paired with oily hair and enlarged pores. But there is some good news, when you reach your 20's generally your hormones will stable and skin will undergo changes for the better.

How to treat oily skin:

Oily skin will needs efficient deep cleansing. Most Skincare brands such as Clinique and Liz Earl sell products that are specially formulated to treat this skin type. Some skin care specialist advise that people with oily skin cleanse their face morning, mid-day and evening. Instead of just morning and evening. (I have in the past done this, your face feels much fresher for longer and has fewer breakouts due to a smaller build up of bacteria.) Your skin will still need moisturising, but choose a lightweight formula, that look Matt on the skin. Also using a cleansing mask twice a week helps to clear clogged pores and refine the skins texture.

Dry skin:

Dry skin tends to flake, it has a Matt texture with little or no shine. This is a result of dehydration, the sebaceous glands are sluggish, or the skin may have been over exposed to the sun, wind or central heating. (Ever noticed that your skin is always dry and flaky in winter, that's why!) This skin type rarely suffers from breakouts, and the pore are hardly visible.

How to treat Dry skin:

Skin must be treated with gentle cleaners every morning and evening. Rich moisturiser should be used during the day and a deep nourishing cream at night, it's worth investing in a specialised cream for the eyes and one for the neck. Also an exfoliating treatment once a week with help reduce flakiness and a stimulation mask (self-heating) will encourage the glands to produce more natural oils.

Sensitive skin:

Usually a consequence of dry skin, is often allergic to cosmetics and tends to develop red patched due to broken capillaries near the skins surface. Over exposure to direct sunlight, and certain foods and drinks will also affect this skin type.

How to treat Sensitive skin:

Much like caring for dry skin, but paying special attention to allergies. Look for sun-care and other products in hypoallergenic ranges. Most large cosmetics companies test their products extensively before putting them on the market. A very well known brand for sensitive skin is 'Simple'.

Combination skin:

Combination skin usually has a T-shaped panel of oiliness down the centre of the face and across the top. (Forehead, nose and chin.) This is known as the T-Zone. It can also have fairly dry areas around the cheeks. This is my skin type.

How to treat Combination skin:

This skin type consists of dry and oily patches, both skin types need different care. It is caused by natural concentration of glands being heavier in some parts of the face than others. It is often too expensive and time consuming to use different products (face washes) on the different parts of the face. Using fairly mild facial cleansers should keep this skin type in shape. I find that using a fairly abrasive exfoliator /cleansing mask once a week on the problem areas helps to keep pore clean and reduce spots.

Balanced skin:

This skin is possessed by few but dreamt of by many. Skin will appear well coloured, fine textured and smooth. It will rarely break-out and will retain it's youthful quality well.

How to treat Balanced skin:

Just a simple cleanse, tone and moisturise routine is essential to keep this skin looking flawless.
Using a stimulating mask once a week will help to keep skin balanced. Using eye creams will keep the delicate eye area smooth and wrinkle free.

This weeks BUYS

It's 12.30am and I am soooo HOT right now it's no where near funny. I hate humidity! I have decided that insted of laying in bed wishing I was in a cool swimming pool the best think I can do is to use my time effectively... Hence this post:') Yayyyy, I went shopping today with muummaaa, And got some cool shiz-nay! I feel like I haven't got any actual clothing, since I got my disco pants; today was no different. More accessories than actual clothing. Anywayy! Stop blabbing on Ash and get to it!:) Here goes...
I naturally ran straight to the sale items and found these tights. Just tights I know but at only £1 each I thought they were an investment, I really like the colours, particulary the pink ones. I'm thinking about trying a dip-dye on the blue. What'd yah think?
Hat; from a vintage shop £3!

It also works like this, I've wanted a hat like this for a while but can never justify spending like £12 in Urban Outfitters... I'm so glad I waited for the right hat to come along <3
(Stay tuned for a few piccys of this hat and myself, I imagine it'll pop up in a few of my outfit posts!)

When I picked these up and said 'these are the ones' I could so see that my mum was dying to say'what the bloody hell are they' To be honest I can't blame her.. These earings are big and chavy and ugly BUT I want to see if I can make them look fairly indie. A little project of mine, which I have no doubt will sooner or later become a post!

This I actually didn't buy.. My sister just got back from Venice and she came baring gifts, or rather 'gift'. I love the colours on this braclet! I'm a total braclet fiend I have like a full arm of them... I'll show you my collection sometime!

 A rather mish-mash of items I think!
That's all folks! I'll be posting loads more over the next few weeks so keep on coming back!
Like my blog? Please drop us a follow if you could be so kind:) cheers!

Recent buys,

I have been a very busy shopping bunny, some bargins and some super spends but todays post is all about my bargins, happy reading...
I found this earcuff in international, which actually suprised me as I went in randomly but I actually found some really great things! This was a steal at just £1.99
This is how it looks on, I really like how it hangs, it adds a little edge to any oufit. Loving teaming this earring with red lipstick or bold black eyeliner.

I love this necklace. I was a gift from my boyfriend! The big spender payed a wopping £2 for this bad boy, I do have to say though it's the thought that counts and I'm in loveeeeee with it. I always gets plenty of positive comments about it, tis from a shop in town called 'culture vulture'.
These earrings are actually topshop, I usually try to avoid buying anything overly expensive when it comes to accessorises. But these earrings were actually my prom earings, they were £6.99 which I think was pretty good.

This was my other earring... I spot a theme occuring ahaha, I'm clearly into my spikes and cuffs at the moment. ThisIis from ebay, it was £1.29. I had a long wait for it but I wear it all the time so it was totally worth it!

Hope you enjoy the pics,

You call this summer?

Well England you've done it again; managed to make this other wise great and bright season particularly miserable, dark and chilly. Congrats to you.

I always find that picking out an outfit that both looks good and keeps you dry is pretty much impossible. Infact, it is impossible. Not once have I walked into an outdoors clothing shop and thought 'that jacket is bitching'  I more commonly think 'eww.'

I do however have both a Wax jacket and a Trench Coat, so why today did I find myself in my vile festival waterproof? I baffle myself...

Luckly I took some photographs before the downpour yayy. My look is not warm or in anyway waterproof but i'm sure i'll live after all, water drys... eventually!

Enjoy the pics

Caring for your Dr Martens

So if like me you love your Docs you'll want to take good care of them to make sure they last a life time. However I am a teenager and therefore suffer a terrible ailment... Laziness.
Once in a while though I will have a sudden burst to get all my little jobs done, cleaning my Dr Martens is always high on this 'to do list.'

Cleaning your Docs
- Sensitive baby wipes
- Dubbin
- Face pads

Muddy, muddy D.M's
Let the cleaning begin.

Scrub scrub here, scrub scrub there!
After a good old wipe... Clean and a whistle.

Now for the dubbin, it's worth getting some good quality face pads for this part as any loose cotton from cheaper pads tends to stick to the boot and leave a sheep like effect behind!

Finally my Docs have been resroted to their original glory, I can wear them with pride again.

Style Jam

Hello my dears it's finally here...Summer!
Well if you can even call it that, British summers are notoriously cold and drizzly.
Ahh well any excuse for me to trot around with bare legs in a pretty summer dress and I'm all over it. To celebrate me finally finishing my exams, I have decided to plunge myself into the world of blogging.
Welcome one and all, I'll basically be blogging about what I wear, what I get up to and anything else that tickles my fancy. I hope you enjoy reading about my summer and then some...
Ash!
